Self-help. How does a master not get tired of work?

STALEKS Journalist.
I write about the beauty industry, collect information, and share trends. I manage an interview column on the STALEKS YouTube channel.

Competition is really dense in the beauty business, and it is important to always stay afloat. An experienced manicurist can serve over five clients daily, and this is a huge load – both physically (it is difficult to constantly remain seated in one position, strain your eyes and hands) and psychologically.

You have to serve clients from early morning till late evening. It is easy to overwork and lose the good mood in such a working rhythm. How do you save yourself from constant fatigue and keep your spirits up?

We have already discussed building communication with the client, the topics to touch, things that are better left out of the conversation, and ways to protect your personal space. Now it’s time to take care of yourself and learn about the so-called psychological hygiene. Behold the list of tips that will help you escape from the professional burnout and let you get the most out of your favorite work!

1. Work is work, but the lunch is on schedule!

Whatever the workload, our body needs appropriate nutrition. And we are talking about proper meals, not a quick bite here and there. Meals can be prepared in advance. Your food should be rich in protein, fiber, and complex carbohydrates. Fruits, vegetables, and cereals are your best friends in a situation when it is necessary to save strength and keep the body in good shape. Bananas, various nuts, and yogurts can be used as light snacks between main meals. This combination is a great natural energy source. And most importantly, digestion of such food does not require energy.

2. Water as a source of vivacity

Very often we confuse fatigue with dehydration. To restore strength and vigor, the body needs water, not just any liquid! Replace the usual coffee or tea with a glass of water, and after a while, you will see that your state of health has improved, despite the active pace of work. In the morning and in the afternoon you can enjoy a cup of green tea. Green tea is a great stimulant, which is extremely important in sedentary work.

3. Movement is life!

“Sometimes simple hypodynamia (lack of physical activity) can be the cause of professional burnout”, says psychologist Anna Kushneruk. In between work sessions you need mini workouts. Walk around the salon, actively stretch the whole body. Engage your entire body, from your fingertips to the top of your head. Then add a few bends to the side, circular head movements, and flexing of the joints. Do not forget about the wrists. The strain on them is quite comparable with the strain on the back and eyes. Allow your eyes to rest while bending and warming up your joints. Close them for 30 seconds and then rapidly blink for 30 more seconds. This improves blood circulation. After that look up and down 5 times, then left and right with eyes only, without turning your head. The whole set of exercise takes no more than 2 minutes, but blood circulation improves greatly and your muscles get saturated with oxygen.

4. Prepare the instruments

Before the holiday season, it is necessary to put the instruments in order. If your hardware requires sharpening, replacement, minor repairs, all this must be done in advance so that you don’t have not have to spend extra energy working with blunt nippers or degraded nail files when you have a very tight schedule.

5. Relax before bed

To get rid of the stress of the day and fall asleep faster, indulge in a hot bath with essential oils for stress relief and relaxation (orange, lavender, bergamot, ylang-ylang, rose). Laze in warm water for 10-15 minutes and then go to sleep. In the morning you will be full of energy for new achievements!

And finally, we would like to say that no matter how important the work is, do not forget to take care of your health and emotional state. Ask your loved ones for help and do not burden yourself beyond measure!
