Jellynails Marmalade Manicure

2020 trend

Nobody is forgotten, nothing is forgotten! And this almost forgotten trend from the 90s is with us again. Then, long sharp nails, covered with bright acid colors, were an indisputable feature of that time. After a meager assortment of nude, gold, and silver varnishes, the appearance of bright shades caused an unprecedented stir.

Fashion for “jelly nails” again comes into force, this time with the help of Kylie Jenner, the famous Instagram-diva and blogger. When Kylie published a picture of his long pink translucent nails in the story, people immediately started talking about the return of “marmalade” manicure to fashion.

Although not surprising, because everything that “the daughter of the Kardashian clan” touches turn into gold, therefore, most likely, even ardent opponents of acrylic nails will give up and try to try on this fashion trend.

And nail stylists should not lose sight of such a “tidbit” among designs. Who knows, maybe your manicure will blow up Instagram? It is worth knowing all the subtleties and rules of Gel Nails’ design creation.

What is Jellynails?

The Jellynails design really looks like glued caramel candies to your nails.

Jellynails has many names – glass, transparent, jelly or aquarium manicure.

The bottom line is: the protruding edge of the nail should be as long and transparent as possible.  To do this, special transparent tips are glued to the nails, and the edge is modeled to the desired shape and coated with transparent varnish on both sides.

Moreover, the nails can be of any shape: square, sharp, trapezoidal or semicircular. The main highlight is in the glass edge.

Variations of colors and shades also exceeded a hundred, but the hottest options are neon pink, green, blue, red or lemon yellow shades.  In general, colors that most accurately imitate vinyl accessories of the 90s.In some cases, fans of jelly manicure do not bother with color at all, leaving the nails only transparent without a tint coating and patterns.

One way or another, such a manicure looks quite shocking and will suit only the most daring.  You can use rhinestones near the cuticle (but the main thing is not to overdo it!). Such a manicure will live from two to five weeks.

Jellynails are created using acrylic or gel modeling technology on tips and shapes.  Therefore, repeating Jellynails by yourself at home will be difficult; it is better to turn to the professionals!

What will be needed for a Jellynails manicure?

And where does any manicure begin? With the preparation of nails and cuticles. For this, we, cool nail stylists, will need only a professional tool. It will withstand all the agony of sterilization and disinfection, will not lose its appearance and will look great in a set.

Admit it; the client will be impressed by perfectly polished, a sharp beautiful instrument with an engraving.  And how pleasant and convenient it is for them to use – they cannot be described in any words.

So, firstly, we are preparing a tool and a workplace.Everything should be at hand: both tools and materials. We will need:

  1. Nail nippers;
  2. Nippers and scissors for cuticles;
  3. Pusher;
  4. Nail file with disposable abrasive.. Disposable abrasive files can be stored both in a box and in a convenient “donut” container, which is more familiar and better to anyone;
  5. Napkins, towels;
  6. Hand antiseptic;
  7. Hand bath with warm water or cuticle softener;
  8. Gloves (disposable – for each client!);
  9. A set of polishes and a palette so that a person can choose a color at the stage of hygienic manicure. It’s good if your place is equipped and there is a shelf next to the table where there are polishes  – you won’t have to look for them for a long time. Otherwise, make sure everything is ready for the arrival of the client.
  10. Sponge, “Fairy” type detergent (soap or shampoo are also suitable).
  11. Hand cream or oil.

Preparing nails and cuticles

So, with the tools sorted out. Time to move on to the fun part! The easiest way to soften and remove the cuticle with a classic manicure is to hold your hands in a special solution. If you, as a nail stylist, make a manicure for the client in a combined technique (hardware + cutting), then you cannot soak the cuticle – you need to work with the nail drill bit on dry skin.

Consider the process in stages:

  • We treat the hands with a disinfectant.
  • We work first with the nails. Remove the old coating, if necessary – cut the nail plate with nippers, shorten to the required length.

  • We shape the nails.To do this, use the “magic wand” – a metal base for the file. We stick a disposable abrasive on it, after evaluating the condition of the client’s nails. If the nails are brittle and soft – take an abrasive of 240 grit, if strong – 180 grit. An abrasive of 100 grit is suitable for filling artificial nails.  You can use a pack with replaceable files, you can get an abrasive from a cool donut container – it contains as many as 100 replaceable files (8 meters of tape!)

  • We are going further. Now proceed to the cuticle and the skin around the nail plate. As mentioned earlier, hands should be held for 5-10 minutes in a solution of warm water with oil. When the cuticle softens, you need to push it with a special stick or manicure pusher. After – cut it with scissors or nippers for the skin.

OR

If you are used to working with the device, immediately after working with the nails, proceed to the treatment of the skin. With a nail drill bit, you can treat the skin around the nail walls, remove burrs. But to cut the cuticle, you still need a tool – it’s convenient for them to penetrate the sinus zones and achieve the perfect result. A softener will help soften the cuticle.

Making Jellynails manicure

Jellynails feature is in gel-extended nails. Natural ones do not fit because the nail should visually look like glass. “Own” nail plate is too strong and hard.

But we jumped the gun. First, nails with hygienic manicure need to be covered with a base.

Then pass to nail extension. Make the setting of the form using the template. Determine the length and shape of future extended nails (it is essential to discuss this with the client in advance).

Take a thick gel and form a substrate.  Draw the future shape of the nails with the help of the end face of the brush. Having removed the template, we get a transparent nail.

Next – remove the stickiness and shape the end using a tool with a disposable abrasive for artificial nails. The file should be a rigid abrasiveness layer.

We take a more liquid gel – it hardens faster and is more evenly distributed on the nail. Liquid gel is ideal for filling the “dimples” at the junction of the natural and artificial nails.

In the lamp for 15-20 seconds, and when all the nails are ready (extended), you can proceed to the most interesting moment! We cover the nails with stained-glass gel polish – we also select the color in advance. Voila! You can cover each nail with a different color. But this is where fantasy will lead.

Another option on how to make Jellynails is to build up not transparent nails but already colored ones. Take the forms gel, gemty gel, and mix them. It’s just that you can’t make a substrate from gemty gel – it won’t stand and will crack.

There is a third option, with nail filling.  To do this, mix the gel, glitter, and pigment (gel polish with the desired shade). Form a nail, file the free edge, and remove the stickiness.

File the nail, cover with a top – these are the chic Jellynails with sparkles. You can safely conquer Instagram!
