Yuki flakes in manicure

2020 trend

“Yuki” in translations from Japanese means “snow.” This word best reflects the essence of the material for nail art: it looks like snowflakes, so fragile and light.

With such material, the imagination certainly can go wild because the thinnest plates can be applied to the nail in different ways. It can be neatly put on gel polish without damaging the shape of the material, or you can grind it into dust with a slight movement. Each time it turns out something completely unusual!

And this is the main charm of the material that ensured him getting into the trends of 2020. Yuki flakes can be rubbed, applied with light patting movements, carefully stacked. The method of application also affects the texture of the future design.

With the help of yuki flakes, you can achieve the effect of marble, Northern Lights, starry sky, holography, the color “chameleon”. One jar – and so many ideas and experiments!

Features of the Yuuki flakes material

With such material, you can certainly give rein to imagination, because the thinnest plates can be applied to the nail in different ways. It can be neatly put on gel polish without damaging the shape of the material, or you can grind it into dust with a slight movement. Each time it turns out something completely unusual!

Using Yuki flakes, you can achieve the effect of:

  • marble

  • Northern lights

  • Starry sky

  • Нolography

  • “Chameleon” color.

Nail art with Yuki’s flakes so fascinatingly shimmer on the light that it seems as if a whole galaxy is reflected in the nails. The combination of three colors allows you to achieve a beautiful gradient transition.

A standard jar contains only 0.2 grams of Yuki flakes, but this amount is enough for a long time.

Like any similar material, flakes are applied to gel polish. A big plus is the ease of use and compatibility with almost any material – Yuuki flakes are unpretentious.

You can apply flakes on both a light and a dark background, and the coating looks equally fabulous on any substrate.Selecting the shade of the base coat to match the flakes, you can emphasize their color and give the tone a greater depth.

So, Yuuki flakes can be applied to:

– top coating without a sticky layer;

– top coating with residual stickiness. To do this, you must first remove the dispersion layer;

– top coating with residual stickiness. You need to apply Yuuki flakes directly to the dispersion layer without removing it;

– colored gel polishes with residual stickiness (Stickiness does not need to be removed.);

– color base gel polishes (for example, black or white base, which is created specifically for the substrate for the design). Stickiness does not need to be removed.

What will be needed for a perfect manicure?

nd where does any manicure begin? With the preparation of nails and cuticles. For this, we, cool nail stylists, will need only a professional tool. It will withstand all the agony of sterilization and disinfection, will not lose its appearance and will look great in a set.

Admit it; the client will be impressed by perfectly polished, a sharp beautiful instrument with an engraving.  And how pleasant and convenient it is for them to use – they cannot be described in any words.

So, firstly, we are preparing a tool and a workplace.Everything should be at hand: both tools and materials. We will need:

  1. Nail nippers;
  2. Nippers and scissors for cuticles;
  3. Pusher;
  4. Nail file with disposable abrasive.. Disposable abrasive files can be stored both in a box and in a convenient “donut” container, which is more familiar and better to anyone;
  5. Napkins, towels;
  6. Hand antiseptic;
  7. Hand bath with warm water or cuticle softener;
  8. Gloves (disposable – for each client!);
  9. A set of polishes and a palette so that a person can choose a color at the stage of hygienic manicure. It’s good if your place is equipped and there is a shelf next to the table where there are polishes  – you won’t have to look for them for a long time. Otherwise, make sure everything is ready for the arrival of the client.
  10. Sponge, “Fairy” type detergent (soap or shampoo are also suitable).
  11. Hand cream or oil.

Preparing nails and cuticles

So, with the tools sorted out. Time to move on to the fun part! The easiest way to soften and remove the cuticle with a classic manicure is to hold your hands in a special solution. If you, as a nail stylist, make a manicure for the client in a combined technique (hardware + cutting), then you cannot soak the cuticle – you need to work with the nail drill bit on dry skin.

Consider the process in stages:

  • We treat the hands with a disinfectant.
  • We work first with the nails. Remove the old coating, if necessary – cut the nail plate with nippers, shorten to the required length.

  • We shape the nails.To do this, use the “magic wand” – a metal base for the file. We stick a disposable abrasive on it, after evaluating the condition of the client’s nails. If the nails are brittle and soft – take an abrasive of 240 grit, if strong – 180 grit. An abrasive of 100 grit is suitable for filling artificial nails.  You can use a pack with replaceable files, you can get an abrasive from a cool donut container – it contains as many as 100 replaceable files (8 meters of tape!)

  • We are going further. Now proceed to the cuticle and the skin around the nail plate. As mentioned earlier, hands should be held for 5-10 minutes in a solution of warm water with oil. When the cuticle softens, you need to push it with a special stick or manicure pusher. After – cut it with scissors or nippers for the skin.

If you are used to working with the device, immediately after working with the nails, proceed to the treatment of the skin. With a nail drill bit, you can treat the skin around the nail walls, remove burrs. But to cut the cuticle, you still need a tool – it’s convenient for them to penetrate the sinus zones and achieve the perfect result. A softener will help soften the cuticle.

How to apply Yuki flakes?

There are two options for applying Yuki flakes to nails: they can be 1) attached to the sticky layer of gel polish, randomly creating a unique pattern, 2) or rubbed by analogy with pigments.

  1. We cover the nails with gel polish according to the standard scheme: surface preparation, base coat and color in 2-3 layers. Be sure to use gel polish with a sticky layer or cover it with a finish with sticky layer.
  2. Without removing the sticky layer, we attach the Yuuki flakes with patting movements. You can collect material with a thick brush, applicator or just a finger. The mica is so thin that it is transferred and sticks just instantly! It will turn out a beautiful shimmering pattern with tints. You can leave gaps between the flakes so that the substrate shines through, or you can completely overlap the surface.
  3. Next, we use the buff on the ends so that there is no pigment left on it.
  4. In the end, the flakes must be covered in two layers with a top with a sticky layer or caoutchouc coating, not forgetting to seal the ends so that the decor lasts a long time without chipping or cracking.

STALEKS recommends: before applying the top coating, use along the surface a lint-free pad to remove all small particles that can get into the top.

  1. We cover the nails with gel polish according to the usual technology: preparation of nails, application of the base and color.  Stickiness does not need to be removed.
  2. Apply Yuki flakes with rubbing movements from the center to the edges. An applicator can be used for this. When rubbing mica, it slightly changes its iridescent shine to a smoother one.
  3. Brush off excess flakes with a brush and seal the ends with a buff.
  4. Shake off the excess flakes with a brush and apply two layers of top, also paying attention to the end of the nail. Seal the ends with a buff.

Yuuki flakes look beautiful when applied to the entire nail, but we are not ordinary nail technicians! We are nail stylists! Who else but we would like to experiment with unusual material and make the most unusual design.

You can apply Yuuki flakes to part of the nail, make a gradient, cover it with a matte top, which is also very unusual, and also draw on the surface, creating a pattern on it.You can combine the first and second application method, creating original compositions.

Yuki can be added to the top coating during volumetric design creation; it will shimmer in the sun incredibly beautiful! With flakes, you can make an incredible design using stencils or do it by hand. Share your work on Instagram with the hashtag – #ямастерstaleks
